Braves take close one from Mets

The Atlanta Braves got a tough win over the New York Mets yesterday at Citi Field with the Braves picking up the W 3 to 1. It was one heck of a game that folks with Braves tickets aren’t likely to forget.

Braves pitcher Jair Jurrjens (2.70 ERA) got the win, while Nelson Figueroa (4.88 ERA) took the loss for the Mets. Jair Jurrjens went 7 solid innings for the Braves, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and one earned run with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Braves was Peter Moylan (2.81). The Mets’s starter Nelson Figueroa went 7 innings, allowed 2 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Sean Green (4.80), Pedro Feliciano (3.00), and Francisco Rodriguez (3.15) also pitched for the Mets. With the win, Jurrjens’s record goes to 13-10, while Figueroa is at 2-7. Rafael Soriano earned the save for the Braves, bringing his saves up to 25.

In addition to the 3 runs, the Braves scored 5 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Braves, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Garret Anderson had a tough day at the plate, leaving 5 runners on base. The Mets didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Mets managed one run, 5 hits and no errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Hunter Wendelstedt, Dana DeMuth, Doug Eddings and Brian Knight. There were 37,823 Mets ticket holders in attendance at Citi Field.

The win puts the Braves at a record of 81-70, (7.5 games behind first place in the division), while the loss brings the Mets to 65-87, (24 games behind the division leader).
