Nationals lose to Mets 10-7

The New York Mets challenged the the Washington Nationals yesterday at Nationals Park with the Mets earning the win 10 to 7. You don’t often see such high scoring games, and anyone with Nationals tickets sure got their money’s worth. This high-scoring game saw the teams combine for a whopping 17 runs! Talk about excitement!

Mets pitcher Raul Valdes (3.20 ERA) got the win, while Luis Atilano (5.06 ERA) took the loss for the Nationals. John Maine went 0 innings for the Mets, allowed no hits, no home runs and no earned runs with one walk and no strikeouts. Also pitching for the Mets was Manny Acosta (3.27), Jenrry Mejia (3.79), Pedro Feliciano (1.50), and Francisco Rodriguez (2.18). The Nationals’s starter Luis Atilano went 4.1 innings, allowed 9 hits, no home runs and 6 earned runs with 3 walks and one strikeout. Tyler Walker (5.06), Miguel Batista (5.55), and Sean Burnett (2.84) also pitched for the Nationals. With the win, Valdes’s record goes to 2-1, while Atilano is at 3-1.

David Wright provided much of the offense for the Mets with an incredible 4 runs batted in. In addition to the 10 runs, the Mets scored 15 hits and committed no errors. Ike Davis and Jason Bay tied for most hits for the Mets with 3 hits, followed by Jeff Francoeur with 2 hits. Jose Reyes had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Nationals didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Nationals got 7 runs, 12 hits and 3 errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Tim Tschida, Bob Davidson, Alfonso Marquez and Tim Timmons. There were 23,612 Nationals ticket holders in attendance at Nationals Park.

The win puts the Mets at a record of -, ( games behind first place in the division), while the loss brings the Nationals to -, ( games behind the division leader).
