Padres defeat Mets at Petco Park

The San Diego Padres beat the New York Mets in 11 innings yesterday in a hard-fought game of baseball. At a baseball game anything could happen, and an MLB extra-innings game is always a possibility. It was a thrilling night of baseball that anyone with Padres tickets will definitely cherish.

Padres pitcher Ryan Webb (1.15 ERA) got the win, while Raul Valdes (5.34 ERA) took the loss for the Mets. Clayton Richard went 6 innings for the Padres, allowed 4 hits, no home runs and one earned run with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Padres was Luke Gregerson (1.57), Mike Adams (2.96), and Heath Bell (1.13). The Mets’s starter Johan Santana went 7 innings, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and no earned runs with 5 walks and 3 strikeouts. Pedro Feliciano (2.18), Elmer Dessens (2.08), and Francisco Rodriguez (2.22) also pitched for the Mets. With the win, Webb’s record goes to 2-1, while Valdes falls to 2-2.

Adrian Gonzalez provided much of the offense for the Padres with an incredible 4 runs batted in. In addition to the 5 runs, the Padres managed 12 hits and committed no errors. Adrian Gonzalez led the Padres in hitting with 4 hits, followed by Tony Gwynn’s 2 hits, and Chase Headley with 2. Nick Hundley had a tough day at the plate, leaving 5 runners on base. Jason Bay had the most hits for the Mets (3), followed by Jeff Francoeur (1). Ike Davis could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Mets mustered one run, 6 hits and no errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Greg Gibson, D.J. Reyburn, Gerry Davis and Mike Muchlinski. There were 15,880 Padres ticket holders in attendance at Petco Park.
