Padres embarrass Mets at Petco Park

The San Diego Padres blew-out the New York Mets yesterday at Petco Park with the Padres winning 18 to 6. You don’t often see such high scoring games, and anyone with Padres tickets sure got their money’s worth. This high-scoring game saw the teams combine for a whopping 24 runs! Talk about excitement!

Padres pitcher Kevin Correia (4.55 ERA) got the win, while Hisanori Takahashi (3.21 ERA) took the loss for the Mets. Kevin Correia went 6 innings for the Padres, allowed 7 hits, one home run and 6 earned runs with one walk and 3 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Padres was Ryan Webb (1.38), Sean Gallagher (6.43), and Joe Thatcher (1.93). The Mets’s starter Hisanori Takahashi went 4 innings, allowed 8 hits, one home run and 6 earned runs with 2 walks and one strikeout. Raul Valdes (4.13), Jenrry Mejia (3.13), Ryota Igarashi (11.17), and Oliver Perez (6.28) also pitched for the Mets. With the win, Correia’s record goes to 5-4, while Takahashi falls to 4-2.

Jerry Hairston provided much of the offense for the Padres with an incredible 4 runs batted in. In addition to the 18 runs, the Padres managed 19 hits and committed no errors. Chase Headley led the Padres in hitting with 4 hits, followed by Chris Denorfia’s 3 hits, and Nick Hundley with 3. Luis Durango had a tough day at the plate, leaving 6 runners on base. The Mets didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Rod Barajas could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Mets managed 6 runs, 8 hits and one error.

Umpiring duties were performed by Gerry Davis, Mike Muchlinski, Greg Gibson and D.J. Reyburn. There were 20,023 Padres ticket holders in attendance at Petco Park.
